A beach with no road
Colombier sits at the island's north-western tip, and the thing to know first is that you cannot drive to it. You reach it by boat, or on foot down a coastal path from the end of the Flamands road — roughly twenty minutes of easy but rocky walking, with the sea on your side the whole way. That single fact keeps Colombier quiet when the rest of the island is busy: the crowd thins with every step of the trail.
Why the effort pays
What waits is a sheltered, west-facing cove with some of the clearest water on St Barts. The bay is a protected zone, calm and rich — green turtles graze the seagrass, and the snorkeling along the rocks is among the island's best. Boats moor offshore for the day; walkers have the sand. Come prepared
There are no restaurants, no loungers, no shade to speak of and no shop — Colombier gives you nothing but the beach, which is the point. Bring water, sun protection, reef-safe sunscreen and shoes you can walk the path in; take everything back out with you. Go earlier in the day for the light and the calm. Approached this way, it's the most rewarding half-day on the island — and it pairs naturally with a villa in nearby Flamands or Colombier, a few minutes from the trailhead.
